Take a stroll around any city in the country and you’ll see ordinary walls being transformed into incredible works of public art. To honor this flourishing branch of the contemporary art world, the National Mural Awards was founded to recognize the best examples of mural art all over the nation.



Since its inception, the National Mural Awards has grown from awarding prizes for individual artists that excel in creating public art, but also recognition of groups and organizations using murals as a way to transform communities and revitalize neighborhoods. The 2025 edition of the National Mural Awards was hosted by The Mural Fest in South Salt Lake City, Utah, with the 2026 awards set to take place at the Sunny Dayz Mural Festival. Applications for both the community and artist awards will open in January 2026.
